Is Nothing Sacred?
So I understand they’re making a new pink panther movie. Am I the only one that thinks this is a Bad Thing ™ and a disservice to Peter Sellers and Inspector Clouseau?
Peter Sellers was not an actor playing Inspector Clouseau…Peter Sellers was Inspector Clouseau. There are some characters that are so tightly linked to the people who play them, that no one else will ever be able to play that character quite the same way. Other examples, although on a slightly smaller scale, are Leonard Nimoy as Spock and John de Lancie as Q.
Steve Martin will play Inspector Clouseau. I heard he’s not bad in the part. Steve Martin is a great comedy actor, but no matter how good a job he does, he will never be Inspector Clouseau.
Edit: I just watched the trailer. It looks horrible.

my e-mail is working again so you can e-mail me back and I won’t be offended if you delete that post from your blog cause… it’s not really anybody else’s business anyway

You are right… it would be SO wrong for anyone but lenard nimoy to play spock… it would make me almost as angry as when they killed off data… but not quite… I shall never forgive them… never

That’s another one…Brent Spiner as Data.
And I’ll go on the record as saying Gene Wilder was a far better Willy Wonka than Johnny Depp.

That’s cause you’re a guy and you cannot see Johnny Depp’s hotness. However, I contest that it was an entirely different role and that you cannot compare them. The two movies may have had the same basic premise but the characters, the reasons they were the way they were, the motivation, and the moral was entirely different. Gene Wilder was an eccentric older man who wanted a kid to run his factore, Johnny Depp was a guy who’d been inside with the oompaloopmas too long and had daddy issues. To me, the first is frightening and the second is hilarious. To others the first is endearing and the second is… too real.

I found the second one far more frightening. I know they’re different characters…but I don’t think Johnny Depp’s character even counts because it deviated so much from the book.

I never read the book. I thought the first one was scary and.. well… you saw my reaction to the second one. hehehe… so what if I’m laughing harder than anyone else? it was funny.

Didn’t you know that? I thought I told you… I’ve also never read hitchiker’s guide to the galaxy, Lord of the Rings, or Peter Pan.
