New Orleans–Wednesday
We went around clearing brush and cutting up trees today. They’ve falled on/near people’s houses and need to be removed. My feet were killing me–there was a lot of walking involved dragging brush to the street, and workboots aren’t exactly designed for doing lots and lots of walking in.
We visited the Lakeview neighborhood where there was a levee breach. It’s completely trashed there. I can’t really describe it, I’ll just post some pictures later on. Suffice it to say that these houses have very large pieces missing. We met a man and his family who lived in the area. He pointed to an empty lot and told us that’s where his house had been. His aunt’s house was on the corner and he invited us in to take a look. It was a mess, although it used to be a really nice house. He also thanked us for coming down here to help out.
On another note, I’m sort of annoyed right now for a number of reasons. I’m trying to figure out if it’s just my attitude, or if there’s more to it than that. Hopefully I can get it resolved pretty quick here and not let it spoil the trip for me.

You know…I posted the annoyance thing at the end because I didn’t want it to be the highlight of this entry…looks like that plan failed miserably.
What exactly do you mean by “usual drama with people around you”????

sorry… didn’t mean to highlight the bad part but… ya know, whatever you say last is the thing people are most likely to remember.
“usual drama”= people stuff. YA know, everyone has annoying habits, querks, stuff that will get on your nerves or on someone else’s nerves… when said stuff gets on someone else’s nerves they complain about it to you, or everyone, then there is a slurry of rumors, various people annoyed with other random people. Stuff like that.
By the way, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it but i think what you guys are doing down there is really cool. I saw a thing on the news today about how college students have gone to New Orleans to help with the clean-up. It was cool… I was like “My friends are there!!!” I wish I was there this week but… as you’re so fond of saying… I’m “dying” so… I’m here training the puppy. Anyway, annoyance happens but… at the end of the week, what you guys are doing is really awesome and I’m really proud of you all.
