Tone Generator
I was playing with a tone generator on my latop. I thought my hearing was really bad, but then I realized that the little tiny speakers on this laptop probably don’t span the range of human hearing. I plugged in my big speakers and it seems my hearing is alright, but this tone generator is behaving oddly at high frequencies…there is no way I’m hearing 50,000 hertz. I actually suspect that the stereo is doing something funny with the signal. Any EE folks care to explain?
For the record, the speakers on a 12-inch Powerbook G4 seem to be good from about 100Hz up to 18000Hz. Could be my hearing cutting out at 18000Hz, too–I’m not sure yet.
It’s also worth noting that I find very high pitched sounds incredibly annoying–at least there’s something to look forward to with getting old.
I wonder if I’ll ever reach a point where I can’t hear small children screaming? I can only dream…
