I am wondering if you would be interested in reviewing a new CloudBerry Online Backup powered by Amazon S3 with friendly user interface, strong data encryption and scheduling capabilities. You can download the product at http://cloudberrydrive.com

This post has attracted some comments from commercial venues.

Here's my policy: if you are a real person representing an online backup product, your comment is welcome but you must make it clear that you have a commercial interest in said product. Comments I deem to be insufficiently clear in this regard will be treated as spam.

Thanks,

[blog owner's note: John appears to represent http://www.onlinebackupdeals.com/ ]

Excellent review! Many people do not know about the file exclusions with Carbonite and do not find out about it until it is too late. As mentioned by Jonathon above Backblaze has been gaining a following for consumer backup. They do make it easy for non-techies to get an online backup running by backing up everything (minus OS files).

"...the online services use RAIDed trays of disks and no off-site backups..."

To address this issue, we use multiple servers that reside in two separate data centers, and they continually sync with each other. So even if one data center would meet with disaster, we have a redundant copy elsewhere.

We invite you to try us for free for 2 weeks and see how you like our software.

Thank you,
Bart Boryczko

I've been using Backblaze for a few months now and am quite happy with it. However, I haven't had to restore anything major yet so I can't say how that works.

$5 a month per computer, unlimited bandwidth.
