So I moved my blog…it was running to slow on my server at home. So…it was broken for a while. At first I thought it was because my new hosting company had screwed something up, but it turned out I was just confused (and they didn’t document using external DNS really…). Anyway…it’s back now, and it should be noticeably faster.

Gang off streets, could return

A gang bust that resulted in four arrests last week may have temporarily made the U-District a safer place, but some community members question its effect on long-term crime levels.
Law enforcement officials announced Monday the arrests of Tewoldeberhan Mekonnen, Daniel Mengisteab Yohannes, Robel Mekonen and Liban Farah Ali on counts of cocaine dealing and weapons possession. Police believe the men belonged to the East African Posse, a U-District gang known for conducting open air-drug deals and possibly connected to a series of violent crimes.
Since then, the gang’s preferred hangout between Northeast 47th Street and Northeast 50th Street on the Ave. has emptied considerably, workers at nearby businesses said.

A priest was delivering a sermon entitled “Stand Still and let the good Lord Fight your battles”, on the topic of not fighting but letting God vanquish evil himself. As he was delivering the sermon, a gust of wind lifted his garment and the congregation noticed he was carrying a gun.
After the service a congregant asked him, “I understood your sermon, but aren’t you contradicting yourself by carrying a gun? You did say you are supposed to let the Lord fight your battles for you?”
“I did say that, yes,” said the priest. “The gun is just to hold them off until the Lord gets here”.
