Any deeper and you’d have to put your boots on.

Cory: You can put FreeBSD on a toaster for goodness’ sake!
Jesse and I: No, That’s NetBSD that you put on a toaster.
It’s supposed to be cool, but it’s giving me a lot of grief.
I got a new (to me) computer. It’s a rackmount server (Dell PowerEdge 1550) that I’m trying to install Zimbra on so I can replace my old and slow mail server. But…I’m having a lot of trouble. Bah…the cooler the stuff you’re doing, the more trouble you have…never fails.
And it’s too hot here!!
My goal during my first week of the new job was not to bring down any systems. So I haven’t actually broken any software…but today I mixed up two computers on the rack (they were right next to each other), and accidentally turned off Tycho. And I’m sure everyone who ever took physics at UW is asking…”And you turned it back on WHY?!?!”….
Cliff: You seem like type that would have a girlfriend, Matt.
Abe: Yeah, Matt, you seem like a breeder.
Abe is an anthropologist, that’s sort of the way he thinks…
Today I went to Fry’s. I was considering buying a TV tuner card or a new video card for my PC. Their selections in both departments were very disappointing. So…wandering through the audio department I saw a XM radio vehicle kit for $80. I decided I was sick and tired of commercials on the radio, and decided to buy one (I’m not usually an impulse buyer). So…I get it hooked up in the car and called them to activate it. The so-called automatic activation system was pretty cool–but it choked as soon as I gave it my last name. So it transferred me to a real person…after waiting on hold for about 15 minutes I finally got it activated. It was OK…it had stations dedicated to the 80s and 90s, and the music was pretty good. Then Jesse’s girlfriend is looking at the channel guide and mentions that there’s a broadway showtunes channel!!! I have to admit…up until this point I was sort of kicking myself for buying this thing…I mean, the music was alright, but not THAT great. But…with the broadway showtunes channel–all was forgiven. This was the best thing I ever did.
I start a new job Monday. I’ll be doing Windows System Administration for the Physics department at UW. It’s a part-time position, but I’ll be a *real* UW employee instead of a student employee, so I get things like medical coverage and other benefits. I’ve also been told I’ll get an office (!). I’ll be continuing my job at C&C through the end of the summer, however.
I’m excited–this job is going to be a lot of fun. I have to learn a lot of new things, and it’s mostly project-based. That is, I’ll be making big complicated things work rather than doing mundane user support tasks like walking people through setting up their email clients and resetting passwords.
